Auburn junior Brandon Mosley talks about his starting role at offensive tackle.

Auburn, Ala.--For junior college transfer Brandon Mosley it has been a rollercoaster ride since arriving at Auburn in January and going through spring practice.

A defensive end and tight end the last two years at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, Mosley was moved to the offensive line at Auburn and immediately entered a battle with fellow junior college transfer Roszell Gayden fro the right tackle position.

Struggling at times to pick up the intricacies of the position, Mosley worked on through the spring as Gayden was bothered by a sore knee for much of the 15 days. With the battle expecting to go on into preseason practice, Mosley instead found himself on the outside looking in as junior A.J. Greene and sophomore John Sullen took over at right tackle before the 2010 season started.

That meant a move to the left side for Mosley behind Lee Ziemba. In just the second game Mosley was called on to help his team in a pinch when Ziemba went out of the Mississippi State game late in the first half. Forced to step in, Mosley said that experience and playing some blocking tight end really set him up for what was coming last weekend, his first career start.

“It helps a lot,” Mosley said. “This conference is so much faster than junior college or anywhere else really. It helps a lot getting to play in a game before that one.”

When Greene went down against Clemson with a broken leg it was Sullen that got the call in the short time to finish out the game. With a full week to find a replacement it gave Mosley a chance to challenge for and ultimately win the starting spot for the South Carolina contest. Helping the Tigers to a huge night on the ground offensively, Mosley said while it was far from perfect he feels like his first night was a success.

“I feel like I did alright,” Mosley said. “I had a couple of penalties that kind of messed me up a little bit. Other than that I think I did all right. I still have a lot of improvement to make. I can get a lot better.”

In his first career start in front of 87,000-plus fans, Mosley did a good job of being physical despite having a few penalties along the way. He said while the mistakes have to be cut down to a minimum, he felt good about the game overall.

The highlight offensively was the pace at which Auburn played in the second half against South Carolina and the ability to sustain drives. Wearing down the Gamecocks with a frenzied pace, Mosley said that was fun as an offensive lineman to see and feel his team taking control of the contest.

“It felt good because you could tell when they were tired,” Mosley said. “They were standing up with their hands on their hips and they weren’t ready. We knew we were whipping them then. It felt really good to get that pace going.”

Just four games into his Auburn career, Mosley has already played three positions and been a part of two memorable comebacks as well. Throw in two crazy crowds for night games at Jordan-Hare Stadum, ESPN Gameday and many other things and it has been fun for the fans as well. Mosley said that’s a big part of the reason why the Tigers have been successful this season and why he’s having the time of his life.

“It is fun,” Mosley said. “I enjoyed it. The fans here, I love them. The Tiger Walk and everything is incredible. You can’t really explain it unless you’re in our position. I’m just really blessed to be here.”
