SEC Honors Another Auburn Tiger

The Southeastern Conference has honored another Auburn football player this week.

Auburn, Ala.--Senior Wes Byrum is the latest Tiger to receive a football player of the week award from the Southeastern Conference.

Byrum, who kicked three field goals in Auburn's 37-34 victory at Kentucky, has been named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

His 24-yard field goal as time expired was the winning margin and the 51st field goal of his collegiate career, breaking the old mark set by John Vaughn from 2003-2006.

It was the fifth game-winning kick for the senior from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Byrum said that he received a congratulatory text after the game from Vaughn on Saturday night and a phone call on Sunday.

Byrum added what he did at the end of the Kentucky game wasn't that big a deal. "I expect myself to make that one every time," he said. "It was a little bit longer than an extra point. The offense did such a good job getting the ball down there and made everything easy."

Wes Byrum watches the game-winning field goal at Kentucky.

Earlier this year Byrum kicked the game-winner in overtime vs. Clemson.

Going into this week's game vs. LSU, Byrum is second in Auburn history in scoring with 292 points. Vaughn's school record is 312.

The 6-0 Tigers, who are ranked seventh nationally as they prepare to play 12th-ranked Arkansas this week, have had an SEC Player of the Week after each victory. Cameron Newton has twice been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Nick Fairley has been Defensive Player of the Week and Defensive Lineman of the Week and Mike Blanc has been Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Kickoff for the Arkansas game is 2:30 p.m. and the LSU at Auburn game a week after that is also sent for 2:30 p.m.
