Newton, Berry Honored By The SEC

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton and offensive lineman Mike Berry were honored by the SEC on Monday.

Auburn, Ala.--For the fifth time this season Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton has been honored by the Southeastern Conference for his performance on the field. This week he's joined by senior offensive lineman Mike Berry following Auburn's 49-31 win over Georgia that gave the Tigers the SEC Western Division title.

Named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Newton rushed for 151 yards and two TDs on 30 carries and completed 12-of-15 passees for 148 yards with two TDs and an interception. Those numbers pushed him into a stratosphere of his own as he became the first player in SEC history to pass for 2,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a single season with still three games left in the year.

Named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, Berry graded out at 95 percent, which led all Auburn linemen. He did not allow a sack or a pressure while playing in all 73 offensive plays and was the lead blocker on Newton's 31-yard TD on AU's first possession of the game.

Berry played a big part in Auburn's 315 yard rushing performance against the Bulldogs. It was a school-record sixth consecutive SEC game in which Auburn has rushed for more than 300 yards this season.

Along with Newton, South Carolina freshman Marcus Lattimore shared the player of the week honors after rushing for 212 yards on 40 carries in a win over Florida that gave the Gamecocks their first Eastern Division title. Recommended Stories
