In-State Junior CB A Prospect to Watch
Birmingham, Ala.--Kalan Reed, a junior at Briarwood Christian, has the potential to be one of the top cornerback prospects in the state of Alabama for the 2012 football signee class. An aggressive player at 5-11, 175 pounds for perennial Class 5A power Briarwood Christian, Reed broke into the starting lineup as a sophomore. However, an injury limited him his playing time last fall, but he should be full speed ahead for his senior season. "I got hurt the fourth game of the season as a junior," Reed says. "I had two interceptions and a touchdown before that happened." A three-sport athlete, the point guard sat out of basketball season to get back to full speed, but should be ready to compete in spring football drills as well as run the hurdles and 400 meters for his high school track team. Already receiving attention from a variety of colleges, Reed says, "I don't have any favorites right now. I am still just looking." One of the colleges he is interested in is the 2010 national champion. "I really like Auburn," Reed says. "It is right down the street and it is in state. Football is big down there. They have a huge fan base. I?really like it." Reed watched his Briarwood Christian team reach the state championship game in December at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium where it fell to Spanish Fort, a team led by Auburn signee Reese Dismukes. "I know we can come back next year and win it all," Reed says. "I think we will be better than we were last season. We have more experience and everyone is coming back. I think we will make a strong run." Reed is planning on coming back strong, too. "I am working on covering skills, back-pedaling and getting out of breaks real quick and reading the offense," he says. The link has video of Reed from his junior season:
