Tigers, Pelton Make Impression On Deloach

Defensive lineman James Deloach discusses his visit to Auburn on Wednesday.

Millen, Ga.--Along with teammate Jonathan Taylor, defensive end James Deloach comprises one of the most feared defensive line duos in the country for the 2011 season. At 6-3 and around 267 pounds Deloach has around a dozen offers already with one of those being the Auburn Tigers.

On Wednesday Deloach and Taylor visited Auburn unofficially to check out coach Gene Chizik's program, see the Tigers practice, and meet new defensive line coach Mike Pelton. Deloach said it was a busy but good day for him on the Plains.

"It went pretty good," Deloach said. "I had fun with the coaches. I got to hang out with Ted Roof again. I got to meet coach Pelton, the new defensive line coach. He seems like a pretty good coach. I met his wife and kids today. It was just about getting to know him a little better."

Relationships in recruiting are always important and that's one of the main reasons why Deloach and Taylor decided to take a trip to Auburn on Wednesday. He said it's not just about choosing a school when the time comes, it's about choosing people too.

"It's real big to get to know him," Deloach said. "Pretty much I'm going to base my decision on how well I know and how I communicate with the coaching staff."

In addition to talking with Pelton they also had the opportunity to watch him in action as the Tigers had their first spring practice. Without four seniors and All-American Nick Fairley to work with off last year's team, Pelton had a lot to say about his new job.

"I liked the practice a lot," Deloach said. "Coach Pelton showed me some film and said he had a lot of work to do. He said they were young but real talented. He said if me and Jonathan came he would be a better defensive line coach. That made me feel good.

"That tells me that if I go there I could get playing time early," he added. "That's a thumbs up to me."

With a dozen offers in all including mostly SEC and ACC schools, Deloach said at the moment he doesn't have any favorites but Auburn is definitely in the picture as he heads into the summer before his senior year.

"They are high up there," he said. "They are a big-time SEC program. They are high on the list."
