Fortner's Tigers Fall At Duke

The Auburn women's basketball team suffered its first loss falling to Duke.

Durham, N.C.--Auburn hung with eighth-ranked Duke for a half, but the Blue Devils pulled away after that to take a 73-50 women's college basketball victory on Friday.

The Blue Devils overpowered Auburn near the basket, outscoring Auburn 44-18 on points in the paint.

Sophomore guard Camille Glymph came off the bench to lead the Tigers in scoring with 12 points as her team fell to 2-1. Freshman guard Hasina Muhammad tossed in 10 points for the Tigers.

Elizabeth Williams led Duke with 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Blue Devils improved to 2-1.

Auburn fell behind by 13 points in the first half, but cut the margin to 32-31 at intermission.

"If it was a 20-minute game I would feel pretty good, but that last 20 minutes was pretty tough for us," Auburn coach Nell Fortner said. "We competed hard and did some good things, but we have to learn to play for all 40 minutes. We had a lot of fight in the first half, but we got down and panicked in the second half."

Auburn was out-shot 41.7 percent to 32.8 percent and that problem was compounded by being out-rebounded 52-35.

The Tigers return to action with a 6 p.m. home game on Wednesday vs. George Washington University.
