White Forced To Give Up Football For Tigers

A promising career has been cut short as linebacker Jawara White has been forced to give up football at Auburn because of injuries.

Auburn, Ala.--After coming back from a n injury that required him to miss the entire 2010 season, Auburn sophomore linebacker Jawara White's career at Auburn is over after another injury this spring has forced the Troy native to give up football.

In a statement released on Thursday, Auburn Coach Gene Chizik said White is unfortunately done with playing for the Tigers.

"Jawara White has sustained an injury that will no longer allow him to play football," Chizik said. "Although this is disappointing for Jawara, our medical staff, his family and our coaching staff all agree that this is in his best interest.

"At Auburn, our top priority is and will always be the health and welfare of our student-athletes. Jawara will continue to work toward receiving his degree from Auburn and will always be a part of our Auburn family."

Playing in 11 games for the Tigers last fall at outside linebacker, White finished the season with 23 tackles and two and a half tackles for losses. White had been making progress this spring at middle linebacker before his latest injury forced him to the sidelines.

In 2010 White was making waves at linebacker until a concussion issue led him to see a specialist. There they found fluid in his spinal chord that required surgery to fix. He was cleared to workout with the team last spring and was able to begin contact again in the fall of 2011.
