Josh Pastner and Memphis scored their first commitment of the 2013 recruiting class on Wednesday.

Josh Pastner struck close to home with his first commitment of the 2013 class.

Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose guard Markel Crawford gave the Tigers head coach a verbal pledge. Commercial Appeal writer Jason Smith confirmed the news with Crawford and his high school coach Jermaine Johnson.

"He just had this epiphany based off talking (to the Memphis staff)," Johnson told Smith. "I could hear it in his voice and his heart that that was his dream, man. When he was a little kid, he always wanted to be a Memphis Tiger."

Last season at Melrose, Crawford averaged 17 points a game. The 6-foot-4 guard is currently regarded as a three-star prospect on
