Linebacker Kris Frost talks about Auburn's defense and his personal progress.

Auburn, Ala.--Outside linebacker Kris Frost is making a push for playing time this preseason and the redshirt freshman says he feels good about the way things are developing.

At Saturday’s scrimmage, the second of the preseason for the Tigers, he was one of the standout performers for the defense.

“I feel like it was one of my better scrimmages,” the linebacker says. “I felt like I did real well in not missing any alignments, doing my job in the defense and filling gaps. I feel strong and I feel like I am really making an impact out there from time to time so I am excited about this one.”

Frost, a high school All-American from Butler High in Matthews, N.C., had to sit out his first season at Auburn with a shoulder injury. He returned to action in spring training and this preseason is pushing for a spot in the playing rotation.

“The scrimmage went well,” he says of the Saturday evening session at Jordan-Hare Stadium. “I think all of us are getting it more and more, taking baby steps, being able to take on more and more at a time. Physically, we are all feeling good, feeling strong.

“When it comes to the plays, we are really coming along and I felt like the defense is really starting to step up and know the objective, and really know what Coach VanGorder expects of us,” Frost adds.

Commenting on how he is progressing personally, the 6-2, 233-pound linebacker says, “Every day I feel like I am making improvement. I feel like I?hit a big milestone (in the second scrimmage) and really took a big leap. I felt a lot more confident and confidence is everything when you are out on the football field.”

The Tigers will open the season against the defending ACC champions, the Clemson Tigers, on Sept. 1st in Atlanta.

Talking about what the Auburn defense needs to do to be ready for The Opening game , Frost says, “It is all about playing fast and playing tough. That is what we are all about and we want to make teams quit. That is what we set out to achieve.

“We know we are going to be ready and will have the best 11 guys out on the field come September 1st,” he adds.
