Birmingham, Ala.--Cody Parkey is the first Auburn Tiger to earn an SEC Player Of the Week honor this football season.
Parkey kicked the game-winning field goal from 35 yards out in overtime as the Tigers defeated ULM 31-38 on Saturday. For the season the junior is 6-6 on field goals.
“It feels good to be able to make kicks like that,” Parkey said. “Coach Chizik trusted me. He took the knee on second and gave me a chance to make the kick.”
In addition to his field goal kicking, Parkey has been outstanding on kickoffs. His hang time helped the Auburn coverage team hold the Warhawks to an average of 9.7 yards per return on three attempts to run back kickoffs on Saturday.
Last season, his first as the starter, the former high school All-American from Jupiter, Fla., was 13-18 on field goals and helped the Tigers lead the SEC in kickoff coverage.
Parkey and the Tigers will take on LSU this week at 6 p.m. CDT at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
