This looks like a promising week for college football fans around the country to see a variety of good games. There are several interesting matchups in the SEC, including a pair of games that will go a long way in determining who will win the SEC East
Here are this week’s SEC games:
Mississippi State (4-0, 1-0 SEC) at Kentucky (1-4, 0-2 SEC)–I am still not sure if Mississippi State has a good team or not based on the schedule the Bulldogs have faced. I don’t know if we will have a much better read on that after this game, which the visitors should win to stay unbeaten.
LSU (5-0, 1-0 SEC) at Florida (4-0, 3-0 SEC)–I like Florida over LSU. The big reason I am going with the Gators is that their quarterback, Jeff Driskell, is playing better than LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger. I think LSU is a little bit better defensively and better running the football, but playing this game in Gainesville I think Florida will win.
Vanderbilt (1-3, 0-2 SEC) at Missouri (3-2, 0-2 SEC)–I am going with Missouri to win at home and give the Tigers their first Southeastern Conference victory a week after the Aggies of Texas A&M?got their first win in their new league.
Texas A&M (3-1, 1-1 SEC) at Ole Miss (3-2, 0-1 SEC)–I think the Aggies are more stable at quarterback. Ole Miss has some skill folks and speed, but I don’t think overall they have as many good players as Texas A&M has so that is why I expect the visitors to win the matchup.
Georgia (5-0, 3-0 SEC) at South Carolina (5-0, 3-0 SEC)–I think this is going to be a very close game. I have got to believe Georgia has more athletes than South Carolina, but this one could be close enough to come down to the play of the quarterbacks–Connor Shaw and Aaron Murray. Which one has the best day could tip the scales in his side’s favor. When Connor Shaw has played healthy he has played good, and Murray turned it over some last Saturday and has done that in the past, so I am picking South Carolina.
Arkansas (1-4, 0-2 SEC) at Auburn (1-3, 0-2 SEC)–I have got to take Auburn over Arkansas because the Tigers are playing at home and I think that will make a big difference to this Auburn team. Keys for the Tigers will be to continue the improvement they showed in the LSU game while making down-the-field plays with the passing game because you know that the Razorbacks will be doing everything they can to keep Auburn from running the football.
In other games around the country:
Miami (4-1) at Notre Dame (4-0)--Notre Dame should stay unbeaten.
West Virginia (4-0) at Texas (4-0)--I really like Texas to win this one at home in what should be one of the best matchups of the day.
Washington (3-1) at Oregon (5-0)--Washington is improving, but I don’t think they are ready for Oregon.
Nebraska (4-1) at Ohio State (5-0)--The Buckeyes are finding ways to win and the quarterback is helping make that happen. I think Ohio State will win again.
Florida State (5-0) at North Carolina State (3-3)--This could be closer than many think, but I am going with the Seminoles to pull off a road win.
Oklahoma (2-1) at Texas Tech (4-0)--Tech is a bit of a mystery because of a weak schedule. I can’t believe Coach Stoops is going to let the Sooners lose this one so I am going with Oklahoma.
Washington State (2-3) at Oregon State (3-0)--The Beavers are at home and playing well on defense so I am picking Oregon State to continue its strong start.
Editor’s Note: Coach Dye was 5-1 in his week five SEC picks and 9-2 overall. For the season his record is 40-10 on SEC games and 58-21 overall.
