Stepheny Durham from Jacksonville (Flor.) Atlantic Coast is one of the top juniors in the state of Florida. Durham was in Orlando on Saturday to check out the Nebraska Cornhuskers as they prepared for the Capital One Bowl.
"I was at Nebraska's practice for their bowl game," Durham said. "I was wearing a Nebraska shirt because I buy something for every school that offers or shows me interest.
"The practice went well. The guys were all working hard. It was good to see how the coaches work."
The practice provided Durham a good chance to look at the style of defense that Nebraska runs as well as how they want to use their defensive backs. Durham said he liked what he saw and said his style would be a good fit.
"I think their defense is a good fit for me," Durham said. "Their DBs look physical and I am a physical guy. Harvey Jackson looked good and played physical today."
Durham and his Atlantic Coast team only went .500 on the season, but Durham says the future looks bright. It was a good season for Durham who pulled in some top individual honors.
"We did alright, but we should have done better. We went 5-5 and my season personally was good. We were getting better, we are young, and I think that we should make a run at the playoffs next year.
"I was an all-conference and all-district selection this past year. I think that I finished the season with four interceptions."
Durham is just a junior, but he says that there are some plans to get out and make some trips this spring. There is only one team that will get a visit for sure.
"I know for sure that I will go to see Georgia Tech in the spring for either a junior day or their spring game," Durham said. "Besides them I don't know what other schools I will visit this spring."
Durham says that there are some key qualities that he is looking for when it comes to picking out a school. One of those qualities will not be staying close to home though.
"I am looking for a good education, good coaching staff and a good system. I am open to any location. I don't necessarily want to stay close to home."
Durham is holding offers from Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Ole Miss, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
