Missouri's three-point barrage was too much for the Auburn women's basketball team to overcome.

Columbia, Mo.--Missouri hit 18 three-point shoots to end Auburn’s nine-game winning streak and take an 82-76 SEC women’s basketball victory on Sunday.

Auburn falls to 1-1 in SEC play and 12-3 overall. Missouri improved to 12-4 and is 1-1 in the league as the Mizzou Tigers made 50 percent of their three-point field goals.

Auburn got a career-high 24 points from sophomore guard Hasina Muhammad, but the homestanding Tigers trumped that with 11 three-point shots by sophomore guard Morgan Eye. She shot 19 times with 18 of those shots treys after coming off the bench on the way to scoring 33 points.

“Way too many times we left them open,” said Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. “It was a lot of screens, a lot of motion. We had to talk and at times we left them open, and when we did they hit their threes.”

The Auburn coach was particularly concerned about her team’s inability to defend Eye. “For us to lose her and not know where she is absolutely ridiculous,” Williams-Flournoy said.

Tyrese Tanner scored 20 points for the Tigers and Blanche Alverson added 17 points. The Tigers also got 10 assists from point guard Jet Ouardad.

Auburn led much of the first half, but Missouri got hot late in the period to take a 39-32 lead at the break and never trailed.

The home team built the lead to 15 points in the second half, but Auburn kept the pressure on until the end forcing Missouri to shoot well to win the game. Mizzou was up to the task.

“There is no way we should have left any of these kids open,” said Williams-Flournoy, whose team hit 5-15 threes and 45.9 percent overall from the field.

Other key statistics included bench points with the home team outscoring Auburn 48-13. Missouri also enjoyed a 37-28 rebounding edge.

“They couldn’t guard us inside, but we didn’t do a good of going up strong,” Williams-Flournoy said.

Auburn will try to start a new winning streak on Thursday with a 6 p.m. home game vs. Ole Miss.
