Coach Flo's Tigers Fall to LSU

The Auburn women's basketball team lost an SEC home game to LSU on Thursday night.

Auburn, Ala.--Like the men's squad, the Auburn women's basketball team is now on a five-game losing streak. The women's team struggles continued as the Tigers dropped a 59-55 home game to LSU on Thursday night.

Auburn dropped to 13-8 overall and 2-6 in the SEC while LSU improved to 13-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Junior guard Tyrese Tanner led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points while sophomore guard Hasina Muhammad added 11 points.

"It is frustrating, but there is always a chance to bounce back," Muhammad said of her team's losing streak. "We have another chance on Sunday. That is all we have to look forward to. We can't look back at the past. We just lost, but it is over and done with so it is on to the next game."

For a second straight game the Tigers struggled to make a three-pointer. After not making a single trey the previous contest, the Tigers went 39 minutes-plus before Blanche Alverson connected on one in the closing seconds. However, that came following back-to-back turnovers by the home team that had a chance to win the game down the stretch, but could not make a play with the game on the line.

"It's another one we let slip out of our hands," Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said of the game that was close from the start to finish.

Her team was outshot from the field 45.5 percent to 40.6 percent. Williams-Flournoy said the issue was Auburn's lack of movement more than good defensive play the visitors. "Unfortunately, it was our execution," she said. "We stood around a lot."

Auburn was 1-9 on threes while LSU hit 3-8. Auburn hit 10-16 foul shots while LSU made 12-20.

Adrienne Webb, who made 3-6 treys for LSU, hit two key three-pointers late in the game to help the Bayou Bengals slip out of Auburn Arena with the victory. She led all scorers with 21 points and her teammate, Theresa Plaisance, added 16 points and nine rebounds.

LSU won the rebounding battle 36-32, but turned the ball over 26 times, seven more than Auburn.

Tanner, who hit 7-14 field goals for the home team, said, "We just have to run harder in transition and pushing the ball faster. We didn't run hard tonight. Our wings didn't get down in transition. We had to force a lot of jump shots. We aren't used to teams playing the 2-3 matchup zone the whole game. It forced us to take jump shots."

Auburn returns to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. CST road game vs. South Carolina.
