2014 Running Back Checks Out Auburn
Prattville, Ala.—A physical running back that rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 12 touchdowns as a junior for the Prattville Lions, Kamryn Pettway is a player that should be one of the guys to watch this time next year for the 2014 recruiting class. A 6-0, 224 bruiser that has very good hands out of the backfield, Pettway's performance at last summer's Hoover 7-on-7 set the stage for a big season as his ability to make plays in the open field for such a big guy was a sign of things to come. Now with schools already showing a lot of interest and his time in the recruiting game just starting, Pettway wasted little time in checking out one of his favorites last weekend when he traveled to Auburn. Being recruited by the Tigers and new Coach Gus Malzahn, Pettway says it was nice to get a feel for the campus and facilities. "It was nice," Pettway tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "I really liked it. I think my dad and my friends enjoyed it too. It was my first time sitting down and really talking to them. I really feel comfortable with them." In addition to spending time with Malzahn, Pettway also talked with co-offensive coordinators Rhett Lashlee and Dameyune Craig as well as running backs Coach Tim Horton. He notes that he got a good feel for Horton as well as what the Tigers will be doing on offense in the future. "He seems like he's real nice and would really get the best out of me," Pettway says of Horton. "They just said they were going to be a running offense. That sounds real good to me." Already hearing from Alabama, Florida State, South Alabama, Vanderbilt, Clemson, North Carolina and South Carolina in addition to Auburn, he recently got his first offer from the Seminoles and more should continue to roll in. Expected to visit Tallahassee this weekend for a Junior Day, he says right now he's just taking his time and enjoying what will soon be a hectic recruiting process. "Right now I'm looking to just get better and to narrow my choices down," Pettway says. "That's my only focus right now."
