Talented 2015 Defensive End Likes Auburn
Columbus, Ga.—Expected to be one of the top defensive ends in the 2015 class, Carver standout Mekhi Brown was one of several prospects on the Auburn campus last weekend for the second Junior Day of the spring. Watching as the Tigers practiced in full pads for the first time, Brown says he enjoyed the trip and getting to see Gus Malzahn and his staff in action. "It was real intense," Brown says. "Coach Malzahn has everyone playing real fast right now. I loved the tempo. Nowadays everybody does the spread and no-huddle offense. It would be trying to get used to playing against that." At 6-5, 230, Brown has been getting offers since before his junior season after performing well on the camp circuit. Starting with Tennessee, others soon followed including the Auburn Tigers. Since that time a change in the staff has brought Rodney Garner to the Plains, someone Brown was already familiar with. Now that he has seen him in his new job at Auburn the talented defensive end says he likes how Garner handles his business on the field. "He's one of the best coaches in the country," Brown says. "He's someone I could play for. He's a real good coach." Garner isn't the only coach on the Auburn staff that Brown is familiar with as former Carver Coach Dell McGee took an off-the-field position with the Tigers and has been helping out in a support role. A former defensive back at Auburn, McGee's presence on the staff can't be anything but a positive for the Tigers' chances with Brown moving forward. "He's just like he was at Carver," Brown says of McGee. "Nothing has really changed. We're still real cool with each other. It's real good for Auburn to have him there." With still plenty of time ahead of him before he needs to worry about making a decision, Brown says it's never too early however to start narrowing things down. "Thinking ahead I believe Auburn will be in my top five," Brown says. "I would probably put Alabama in there as well, but that's really it right now. There are still some schools I haven't visited yet." Continuing his look around at his favorite schools, Brown says he'll be at Alabama this weekend for a Junior Day and he's hoping to be back in Auburn on April 20th for the A-Day Game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
