Parker Signs With Coach Flo's Tigers

Kiani Parker

The Auburn women's basketball team has added a signee for the spring period.

Guard Kiani Parker, who committed to Auburn last week, signed scholarship papers to play basketball with Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy's Tigers on Wednesday. The 5-9 point guard from Crestview, Fla., played at Northwest Florida State College the past two seasons.

Parker chose the Tigers over Clemson, Georgia, Alabama and others.

"We are excited for Kiani to join the team," said Williams-Flournoy. "She is a great athlete that has played on a very good team there at Northwest Florida and, being a junior college transfer, she will add maturity and experience to our lineup. She is a long, athletic player that had almost four steals a game as a sophomore, so she will fit right in with our system."

Parker will have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2013-14 season. She is the third player ever from Northwest Florida to sign with Auburn, joining Tamela McCorvey (2006) and Tara Williams (1995). McCorvey, who graduated from Auburn in 2008, is Parker's assistant coach at Northwest Florida.

"Auburn is a good program that showed me a lot of interest," said Parker. "When I visited, I felt comfortable with the coaching staff. The more we talked, the more we built a relationship. I just felt like it was a family up there."

Parker helped lead Northwest Florida State College to the NJCAA national quarter-finals and a 26-5 record. A standout on defense, she averaged 3.9 steals per game, which ranked 12th nationally. She also averaged 11.0 point, 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. She earned Panhandle Conference First Team and All-State Team honors as a sophomore.

The Raiders finished her sophomore season with a 26-5 record and a 9-3 mark in Panhandle Conference play. The run in the NJCAA Tournament was the first for Northwest Florida since the 1994-95 season.

While playing for Holly McDaniel at Fort Walton Beach High School, Parker was a four-year varsity starter and was selected to the First-Team Northwest Florida Daily News All-Area Team while also earning All-Conference honors as a junior and a senior.

Parker is the sixth member of Williams-Flournoy's first signing class, joining Keonna Famer, Katie Frerking, Brandy Montgomery, Allina Starr and Meagan Tucker.
