Auburn, Ala.—For the second consecutive year Auburn kicker Cody Parkey and punter Steven Clark have been added to preseason watch lists heading into the season. Parkey is one of 30 kickers on the Groza Award Watch List, presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission to the nation’s top kicker. Clark is one of 25 punters named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List, an award that is handed out by the Augusta Sports Council to the nation’s top punter.
Entering his senior season making 75 percent (24-32) of his field goal attempts and having converted on 70-71 extra-point attempts, Parkey has been the model of consistency for the Tigers since taking over the job in 2011. Last season Parkey converted on 11-14 field goals and was a perfect 27-27 in PAT kicks.
“Being on the Lou Groza preseason watch list is a huge honor,” Parkey said. “But at the end of the day, it’s about being on the list at the end of the season and I’m training hard and looking forward to a great 2013 season.”
Earning his third-straight nomination for the Guy Award, Clark averaged 39.8 yards per punt in 2012 with six punts going for over 50 yards. He also had 15 punts downed inside the 20-yard line with only five of his 70 punts returned during the season.
"It's always an honor to be mentioned among the best at your craft,” Clark said. “I'm really looking forward to putting my best on the field this season and helping my team to what I feel can be a special year."
