AU Commit Chris Laye: "It Was Incredible"

Chris Laye

Auburn tight end commitment Chris Laye talks about his visit for the Ole Miss game and what he's loving about the 4-1 Tigers.

Suwanee, Ga.--One of Auburn's earliest commitments for the 2015 class, tight end Chris Laye has been a regular at Jordan-Hare Stadium this season to see the Tigers in action. On Saturday night he was in town as the Tigers defeated then 24th-ranked Ole Miss to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Seeing the best atmosphere of the season and a team that continues to get better on the field, Laye says that everything about the weekend was perfect to him.

"It was incredible," the 6-5, 240 Laye tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "The atmosphere was just incredible. I think it was the loudest I have heard the stadium. I have been to all the home games. What an experience for me and the rest of the guys, as far as recruits go. I talked to a ton of players after the game and they were really excited."

Watching the tight end position closely this season, Laye notes that while the Tigers weren't able to get them involved as much against the Rebels it doesn't diminish his love for what Gus Malzahn and Rhett Lashlee are doing on that side of the ball.

"Nick Marshall is always going to be a guy that we're going to have to watch every week," Laye says. "He has improved every week. My favorite player on offense is probably C.J. Uzomah coming from a tight end. He was out, but it's fantastic watching the whole team improve each week.

"The offense is getting better every week," he adds. "I look forward to seeing it grow throughout the season. Corey Grant is huge. He's a home run guy for us. Tre Mason is always working hard. I think as the season goes on and on we're going to just keep getting better. This is our rebuilding year so I think everyone can expect a lot from us the next few years."

Making multiple visits to Auburn already this fall, Laye has had the chance to continue to build a strong relationship with many of the current commitments for the Tigers. On Saturday that meant spending time with guys like Racean Thomas, Kamryn Pettway, Jakell Mitchell along with 2014 quarterback Sean White and 2015 commitment Tyler Queen. Laye says that has been one of his favorite things about the season so far.

"I tell you what it's just incredible to already have a relationship like we do as a committed family," Laye says. "I know we're all going to come in and work really hard together. Having everybody at just about every game and just getting to see them all the time, we're already building a good relationship."

Currently his team at Lambert High fight for a playoff berth, Laye says that while he is fully focused on his high school season it is difficult for him not to think about the future when he will finally be on the Plains.

"I'm beyond excited," Laye says. "Just to see the team grow and to know I'm going to be a part of that is just amazing."
