I've attended several combines through the years and every once in awhile I've discovered a player with tremendous potential that is still under the recruiting radar. Class of 2016 quarterback Jordan Jones is one of those type players.
At last weekend's Byron De'Vinner's Football Combine, Jones ran a 4.56 forty, had a 40 inch vertical leap, ran a 4.28 shuttle and threw the powerball 28 feet. He measured in at 6-foot and 172 pounds. He also showed a great arm in one-on-one drills.
In addition to having the physical attributes that all college coaches are looking for, he also has a high football IQ.
"I have been playing football since I was four-years-old," said Jones. "I grew up around the game. My brother was a running back and my dad played cornerback and running back (at the University of Miami)."
One of the reasons he's a player most people haven't heard of is because he played behind a senior quarterback this past season.
"We had a senior quarterback so I mostly just played receiver this past season," said Jones. "I also played some at quarterback."
He feels his best position is quarterback.
"I've played quarterback since I was four," said Jones. "I can throw the ball 65 yards. I can pass it but I also know how to get out of the pocket. I look to throw first, go through all of my progressions. I know to trust my eyes."
As of now, he's not receiving recruiting attention, although I expect that to change during the coming months.
"I plan on attending camps this summer," said Jones. "I've been to camps at Auburn, Jacksonville State. I've been to Auburn's camps three years in a row."
He has interest in all of the SEC schools and a few others outside of the SEC.
"My dad's alma mater is Miami," said Jones. "I'm interested in them. I'm also interested in Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn. I'm interested in any of the other SEC schools."
