The Tigers have scholarship papers in from four-star defensive lineman Davonte Lambert…
DL Commitment Helps With Recruiting
Milledgeville, Ga.--Although he made his official visit to Auburn last summer and is a long-time verbal commitment, defensive lineman Davonte Lambert returned to the Auburn campus over the weekend to hang out with his future teammates and help with recruiting. After helping Georgia Military College to a one-loss season and a berth in the juco national title game where they fell to East Mississippi Community College, Lambert is planning to enroll at Auburn later this year. "It was great knowing the guys wanted me to come over and hang out with them and build that team bond, a brotherly bond, to get ready for next season," he said. "It just makes me feel good to be a part of this football program." Lambert said he thought the recruiting weekend went well for the Tigers. "The recruits looked like they were having a good time," he said. "It was fun hanging out with some of the new players and hanging out with some of the guys who are already on the team." Lambert noted that he has to finish two more classes before he reports to Auburn. He has set his goals high for the 2014 season. "I want to be an All-SEC player and an All-American," he said, noting that he is currently 6-3, 280. "I basically want to be at around 275 or 280 for the season." Originally from Burke County High in Waynesboro, Ga., Lambert said that he feels like he improved as a football player during the 2013 season. "I elevated my game with speed and working with the coaching staff," he said. "I think I really got better with my pass rushing because during the season we were blowing teams out and they were throwing the ball a lot." Davonte Lambert Lambert said he is excited about the opportunity to play for defensive line coach Rodney Garner. "He told me I will be playing defensive end, but every now and then, like third and long, I will be a defensive tackle." The lineman said he was impressed with the improvement Garner's players made during Auburn's 2013 SEC Championship season. The prospect said that his teammate at GMC and fellow Auburn commitment Devaroe Lawrence is still planning to sign with the Tigers even though he visited Mississippi State this weekend. "I talked to him yesterday and he is supposed to give me a call today--he is 100 percent Auburn."
