Each year we see more football prospects switch their commitments. With prospects committing to schools earlier, opposing schools have longer to flip them. Here are five to keep an eye on Wednesday...
We saw five-star running back Dalvin Cook
quietly flip to Florida State
early in January.
Right before that, Scout 300 defensive tackle Dontavius Russell switched his commitment from Georgia to Auburn.
One of the best in Mississippi Markell Pack committed to Florida State early, but over time decided that he wanted to stay home with Ole Miss.
Those are just three examples of prospects that committed to one school, but now plan to sign with a different one on Wednesday.
There will be surprises on signing day 2014 and we take a look at five prospects out of the South that are possible flips.
One that has gotten very interesting is the recruitment of four-star athlete Treon Harris. The Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington star remains committed to Florida State, but this one is not over. He visited Miami the last weekend before signing day, but the Hurricanes are not who FSU is worrying about. It is Auburn and Florida. Both the Gators and the Tigers have a shot here, but it seems UF has a little more momentum right now. Harris visited both schools and this will be something many watch on signing day day. He could stay with FSU, but there is more talk about him flipping to Auburn or Florida right now.
Javon Harrison is a talented athlete out of Lakeland (Fla.) Kathleen who FSU is making a big push for over right now. Harrison remains committed to Virginia Tech, the school he has been committed to for some time, but FSU is not making it easy on the Hokies. There seems to be a lot of smoke around the home-state school right now, so a flip is a real possibility here.
Can Florida hang on to J.C. Jackson? We have been hearing this or reading about this for a little while now, but early on, it was all about Florida State, now it is Miami. Jackson visited Miami unofficially a week ago, then visited Florida this past weekend. He did meet with UM head coach Al Golden Saturday night after the visit to The Swamp. There is chatter about some in Jackson's camp wanting him in Coral Gables, but we know the four-star himself really likes the Gators. This will not be an easy decision for the talented corner out of Immokalee, Fla. We likely will not know for sure until signing day where he will play college football.
An announcement that could come before signing day is the one from JoJo Robinson. The FSU commitment has been looking at other options for a while now and Arkansas and South Florida have been the two most talked about. The Hogs may have the momentum here and Robinson could announce as early as Monday February 3. It does not look like FSU will be the school he signs with, so this flip looks likely.
South Carolina got Dexter Wideman on campus for an official visit a couple of weeks ago, so will the Gamecocks flip the four-star defensive lineman on signing day? Wideman surprised some when he committed to FSU months ago, but he may not sign with the Seminoles on Wednesday. FSU did have him and his family on campus this past weekend for an official visit, so this one is getting interesting. There has been a lot of chatter about Wideman leaning towards the home-state Gamecocks for a few weeks now, so this is one that could go either way.
There are other possible flips out there, but these are five to really watch over the next few days.
