Friday Auburn Football Recruiting Notebook

News and notes from the Auburn recruiting front are featured in this Friday notebook.

A player who is a focus for the Tigers in this year's class is the nation's top prospect, offensive tackle Martez Ivey from Apopka, Fla. Having already visited to check out Auburn along with teammate Chandler Cox, Ivey likes the Tigers at this point along with several other colleges. With Cox very high on Auburn because of the need at fullback/H-Back in this year's class, it could help with Ivey down the road if they were to land Cox.

Another player who Auburn is in pretty good shape with at the moment is five-star quarterback Torrance Gibson from Plantation, Fla. Visiting Auburn this week, he is a great fit in the Tigers' offense because of his running ability and strong arm. Not a polished passer at this stage of his development, he would be a great addition in the class along with Tyler Queen. There is a chance that Gibson may return for Auburn's A-Day next month. Tennessee and Ohio State look to be two of the main competitors for Gibson.

With Montavius Atkinson and Elijah Sullivan already committed, the Tigers are still on the radar with several similar defensive players and that's huge because of the versatility needed on the Auburn defense. Because the "star" position, boundary safety and even weakside linebacker require players with enough size to line up in the box but also be athletic enough to play in space, there will likely sign four or maybe five players capable of playing those spots. Jordan Colbert, Darrell Williams and Richard McBryde are just a few of the players high on the list for the Tigers with Colbert leaning to Auburn at the moment.

Jordan Colbert

A teammate of Atkinson, D'Andre Walker is a player who Auburn is recruiting heavily because of his ability to get to the quarterback. While it doesn't appear that he will make a decision anytime soon, Walker would be a huge addition for the 2015 class if he came onboard and right now the Tigers are at or near the top of his list.

Another pass rusher from the Atlanta area is Natrez Patrick. He has visited Auburn and the Tigers are in the mix, but the early favorite may be the Georgia Bulldogs.

With a large group of upperclassmen at wide receiver, Auburn is looking to sign a difference-maker or two at the position in the 2015 class. Some of the names the Tigers will be focusing in moving forward are George Campbell, Jayson Stanley, John Burt, Tyron Johnson and Preston Williams. Currently committed to Tennessee, Williams will be a tough get as will Burt (Tallahassee native).

Caleb Kim

A four-star offensive line prospect from Mill Creek High in Georgia, Kaleb Kim has made a pair of visits to Auburn this spring and the Tigers look to be the team to beat for him. It wouldn't be surprising to see him pull the trigger in the coming weeks to guarantee his spot in the 2015 class. Auburn is expected to sign four or five linemen this year.
