The Tigers finished their round on Sunday in a three-team tie for 11th place at six-over-par. The top eight teams will compete in match play. Currently, UCLA is in eighth place at plus three with 18 holes to play while South Carolina is ninth at plus four and Illinois is at plus five.
For a second consecutive day the Tigers had their round interrupted by bad weather. After teeing off at 7:20 a.m. play was stopped for the fourth time with the Tigers on the course for a total of just under 10 hours over two days.
When play was stopped on Sunday the Tigers were in third place at six-under-par. After returning to action they lost a dozen strokes to par.
"We hung in there," Auburn Head Coach Nick Clinard said. "We came back from the rain delay and the wind was blowing 20 miles per hour. It's the luck of the draw. We hit some bad shots, had too many three-putts and just didn't get it done on some of the harder stretch of holes. We have to regroup and get ready for tomorrow."
Freshman Matt Gilchrest, who is Auburn's low scorer through two rounds at 140 with a 67 followed by a 73. He is followed by Niclas Carlsson (68-73, 141), Will Long (68-73, 141), Daniel Stringfellow (71-73, 144) and Jake Mondy (71-76, 147).
When play was stopped Auburn was at six-under-par, two strokes behind Alabama and six behind Stanford, teams that completed their second rounds on Saturday.
Stringfellow had made it through hole 11 and was minus-1 while Mondy was through 10 at plus-4. Long was about to chip at the green on the ninth and was plus-1 while Gilchrest was minus-1 through eight and Carlsson was plus-1 through seven.
Gilchrest's four-under-par for the tournament at the time of the stoppage was tied for third with five others, only one of which was still playing the second round.
"We got off to a ham-and-egg type start," Clinard said. "Jake got off to a bad start and was six-over quickly so we were playing with four guys. It's hard to play a U.S. Open-style course four-legged."
Due to the bad weather Monday's individual round was cancelled and replaced by round three of the team competition. The teams that qualify for match play are scheduled to compete Tuesday through Thursday.
