Football Tigers Pushing Hard, Players Contend

The Auburn football Tigers are putting in the work to get ready for the 2014 season, according to a pair of the team's key players.

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn football players said in the spring that their winter workouts this year were more demanding than in 2013. According to a pair of Tiger seniors, the trend is continuing this summer.

Center Reese Dismukes noted the Tigers have been making progress under the direction of strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell and his staff.

“We have been getting after it,” Dismukes said of the summer workouts. “Coach Russell expects nothing but the best from us and never really has a bad day. I have never seen him down.

“It has been a good summer like you would expect,” said Dismukes, whose Tigers came very close to winning the 2013 national championship. “I think all of the guys have gone out there and gotten after it each and every day. That is the only option we have with the way Coach Russell runs things. I think it has been great.”

Tight end C.J. Uzomah agrees with Dismukes about the summer workouts. “They have been tough,” Uzomah said. “We had one (Monday) and my legs are still feeling it.

“Coach Russell has really been getting after us,” Uzomah noted. “He wants to make sure no complacency creeps into any facet of program. I think he has done a great job because we feel it every workout a few days after the workouts.”

Uzomah pointed out that after coming so close to winning the national title last season the returning players have plenty of motivation to do better this year. “We watched film on it and after that I kind of put it to bed,” he said. “I didn’t want to watch it again. It was hard knowing we were 13 seconds away from winning a national championship, which is going to haunt us for probably the rest of our lives.

“We left a lot of plays out on the field and we are going to learn from those mistakes and come back this season and correct those,” the senior added.
