Another Florida prep star picks the Tigers…
Hanging Strong: Prospect Cuts Two Teams, Two Left
Plantation, Fla.--Plantation High's Darrell Strong says he has dropped two of his final four college choices and may wait until signing day on Wednesday before making a pick between the Auburn Tigers and Pitt Panthers. Strong says he has eliminated Mississippi State and Temple from the mix. He took an official visit to Temple this past weekend and said the thing he noticed the most was the weather there. "It was cold," he says. "It was a good visit," Strong adds. "I liked there stadium a lot and had a good time, but I am not considering them. It is down to Auburn and Pitt." The 6-4, 1/2, 238-pounder spent his senior season at Plantation High as Wing-T quarterback, who saw some spot duty at free safety. However, he has also been recruited by teams as a tight end. "I like the school at Pitt," he says. "I can say the same thing about Auburn and it is closer to home. Both schools have a good football program." Strong, who played quarterback earlier this month in the Dade-Broward all-star game, threw for 1,000-plus passing yards with 16 touchdowns while completing 68.7 percent of his passes with just three interceptions in his first season as a QB. He also ran for 423 yards and seven TDs directing a run-oriented Wing-T offense. He helped his team to an 11-2 record by also playing defensive back in spot duty. He was a starting receiver as a junior.
