AU Divers Doing Well At Olympic Trials

St. Peters, Mo.--For a second straight day, Auburn divers advanced to the finals of the 2004 Olympic Diving Team Trials.

Matt Bricker and Ashley Rubenstein both qualified for the finals in the three-meter springboard competition.

Bricker scored 597.60, which put him in fifth place going into the finals. Troy Dumais is in first place with an 11-dive total of 678.03. He is followed by Phillip Jones (665.31), Justin Wilcock (664.38) and Clayton Moss (603.03). The men’s finals are set for Friday.

Rubenstein is in sixth place in the women’s competition with a score of 485.58 on 10 dives. Kimiko Soldati leads with a total of 557.40 and is followed by Rachelle Kunkel (538.44), Michelle Davison (531.30), Nancilea Underwood (521.07) and Sara Hildebrand (500.19). The women’s finals are scheduled for Saturday.

Another Auburn swimmer, Steven Segerlin, scored 523.47 to finish 18th. He did not advance to the finals, however, he and teammate Caesar Garcia did reach the finals of the platform diving competition. Garcia, the NCAA champion in platform diving, will go into Saturday’s finals in first place.

Garcia finished the the preliminaries as the top qualifier on the platform with a score of 647.25. Thomas Finchum with a total of 620.13 is in second. Segerlin is in ninth place with a total of 528.72 for 10 dives.
