Marquies Gunn is playing his best football for the Tigers…
Tiger Unleash Their Big Gunn On Gamecocks
Auburn, Ala.--Marquies Gunn had one of his most impressive performances as a Tiger defensive end with seven tackles, including four for losses and one quarterback sack, in Auburn's 48-7 rout of South Carolina. Auburn defensive coordinator David Gibbs wasn't surprised on Saturday night. "He is probably the toughest guy we have got on our defense," Gibbs said from the winning locker room. "He continues to play tough and make a lot of good plays for us. He is a fighter and I think that rubs off on the other guys. I think he is a great influence on our team. "He does a good job against the run and he can rush the quarterback," Gibbs added. "People forget about him because they only want to talk about those other two guys. Marquies is a good football player." Marquies Gunn had one of his best career games Saturday night against South Carolina. Gunn is also the starter and showed why with his strong performance as the Tigers improved their record to 2-0 in the SEC and 4-1 overall. "It was a big win for us," said Gunn, who noted that thee crowd helped energize the defense. "They were really loud out there and that was great." Gunn said he believes the Tigers got better on defense and played with an aggressive style vs. the Gamecocks. "They are an SEC team so we were ready for a tough game," he said. Gunn noted that he was surprised at how lopsided the victory margin was. "I expected the score to be closer than it was," he said. "We came in and played with high intensity. We knew th t they had some weaknesses and we tried to attack those." The Tigers will have two days off before returning practice on Tuesday to begin preparations for a road trip to Arkansas following an off-week. "We just have to keep the intensity up," he said. "We have to play at the same level we have been and take it to Arkansas."
