Big Tackle Comments On Visit To Auburn
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.--Defensive line prospect Charles Deas says he is in no hurry to name a favorite or pick a college destination. The 6-5, 320-pound defensive tackle took his first official visit over the weekend to Auburn and has three more trips lined up. "I am going to FSU next and then I am going to LSU and Nebraska," he says. Deas played at Dillard High as a junior, but sat out of football as a senior while he worked on his academics. His only game in the past year was as a participant in the Florida-California All-Star Game and he was one of the top players in the contest. His player host for the Auburn recruiting weekend, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Pat Sims, is a former standout at Dillard and Dorsey was more than just a familiar face when Deas arrived on campus. "Pat is like my brother," Deas says. "He just told me Auburn is a good place. He told me it is going to be hard and that you are going to have to work to be successful." The Tigers featured another former Dillard standout on their 2005 team, defensive end Stanley McClover, who will try to make a living in the NFL in 2006 after opting for an early entry into the draft. Deas says he knows McClover and a variety of other players from Dillard who played for the Tigers starting in the early 1990s. He says that he has gotten good reports on the Auburn experience from those players. "I know all of those guys," he says. Overall, Deas says the weekend was a good one and he rated it a nine on a scale of 1 to 10. "I had a good time," he says. "The team is like a family at Auburn. They showed me a lot of love and I liked it." Deas, who is being home-schooled, says the academic portion of the visit was a positive. "That went good," he says. "I want to major in business." The defensive tackle notes that it is too early to have a leader and he is a long way from being ready to announce where he wants to play college football. "I plan to wait until signing day to announce my decision," he says.
