North Alabama Lineman Interested in Tigers
New Market, Ala.--Buckhorn High standout defensive lineman Justin Sanders spent his Saturday in Auburn trying to impress coaches at the SEC power that he is worthy of a scholarship offer. Justin Sanders lines up in a drill at Auburn's camp on Saturday. While it is too early to know if he will get that offer from the Tigers, it was easy to conclude he was one of the better prospects at Auburn's final football camp of the summer, a one-day affair at the football complex. Sanders, who measured in at six-foot-three-and-one half and weighed 264 pounds, says, "It was pretty good. I had an alright day." His opportunity to show his moves in one-on-one drills was cut short by the second rainstorm of the afternoon. The linemen worked through heavy rain in the first shower, but when lightning accompanied the second storm all of the players were sent into the indoor facility for camp wrapup speeches from the AU staff. Justin Sanders played in the junior all-star game in December. A player who had an exceptional junior season with 122 tackles, including 18 quarterback sacks, Sanders is receiving attention from major programs. He notes that he has early scholarship offers from Clemson, South Carolina and Louisville and that he likes all three of those colleges. Don Dunn, who recruits north Alabama for the Tigers, is also the defensive line coach at Auburn. "He said he wanted to see me at the camp before he made any decisions about offering a scholarship," Sanders says. "That is why I came to the camp." A starter since his sophomore year, he says he believes his strength as a three technique tackle is his ability to be effective with his hands. He notes that for his senior year he is concentrating on making sure he "doesn't play too high" at the line of scrimmage. If he gets an opportunity to play for the Tigers, there is a good chance he will take it. "I really love Auburn," he says. "Auburn is where I could see myself if I get the offer."
