Auburn, Ala.--Following his performance in Saturday's 7-3 win over LSU it's no surprise that Auburn senior punter Kody Bliss has been named the Southeastern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Kody Bliss played a pivotal role in Auburn's victory Saturday with one of the best punting days in school history. Punting six times Bliss averaged 48.2 yards on six punts. That included four punts of over 50 yards and two inside the 20-yard-line. He says it was definitely a game to remember.

"The game was definitely one of those old school defense vs. defense battles," Bliss says. "Luckily, our defense turned out to be a little bit stronger."

Bliss opened his afternoon with a 50-yard punt, and he followed that with a 61-yarder later in the first quarter. He started the second quarter with a 62-yard effort, which was his seventh career punt of better than 60 yards and just one yard shy of his career long.

Bliss' fourth punt traveled just 31 yards, but pinned LSU at its own 8-yard-line. His next punt was a 34-yarder in the fourth quarter that resulted in a fair catch at the LSU 19, and his final punt, with Auburn clinging to its 7-3 lead with just 1:18 left, sailed 51 yards to the LSU 20 and also resulted in a fair catch.

Bliss' punting was a big reason why Auburn defeated LSU Saturday.

LSU returned two of Bliss' punts for 19 yards, giving Auburn a net punting average of 45 yards per punt. He says it is tough to top a performance like the one he had Saturday. "It was definitely the best game I have ever had," he notes.

Bliss leads the SEC and ranks fifth nationally averaging 48.1 yards per punt this season. Bliss, a 2005 first-team All-SEC selection who is a nominee for the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter, ranks second in Auburn history with a career average of 43.65 yards per punt

The honor marked the third straight week that an Auburn player has received a weekly award from the SEC. Kenny Irons was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week following Auburn's season-opening win against Washington State Sept. 2, and Ben Grubbs was named SEC Offensive Lineman after Auburn's Sept. 9 victory at Mississippi State.

Bliss and the No. 2-ranked Tigers (3-0 overall, 2-0 SEC) return to non-conference action this Saturday when Auburn hosts Buffalo (1-2) at Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday. The game begins at 1:30 p.m. CT.
