Louisiana Lineman Enjoys Visit to Auburn
Marrero, La.--Defensive tackle Drake Nevis says his first visit to an Auburn football game was a memorable one. The 6-2, 290-pounder from John Ehret High School was in Auburn over the weekend to check out the Tigers' 27-17 victory over Florida. "It was great," he says. "I had a good time. The fans were tremendous. The whole visit was nice." Nevis, who was making an unofficial visit, notes he talked to Auburn defensive tackles coach Don Dunn, defensive ends coach Terry Price and head coach Tommy Tuberville. "I also met four or five of the defensive linemen," he says. The lineman verbally committed to Ole Miss extremely early in February. However, he notes that he is still looking at other colleges, including Auburn, so his recruiting appears to be far from finished. "Ole Miss was the best offer at the time," he notes. "I have 13 offers now and I want to look at some of the other colleges." In addition to the Tigers and Rebels, Nevis says he is also seriously looking at LSU and Florida. Nevis points out that he can play any position on the defensive front from end to noseguard. He is having a big season as a senior. "I have something like 70 tackles this year with seven sacks." He notes his best game of the season so far has come against LaFayette. "I had four sacks, 10 tackles and five (quarterback) hurries in that game," he says. Drake Nevis When discussing what has made him successful as a high school lineman, he says, "I am physical and I have good quickness." Nevis says he has a 3.0 grade point average and is interested in business or sports marketing as a collegiate major. He is also competes on his school's track and field team and says his best throws are 150 feet in the discus and 50 in the shot put. Commenting on what he is looking for in a college football program, he says, "Playing time is important to me. I want to go to a place where I will have a chance to play my first year. If not the first year, I want to be able to play after a redshirt season."
