Tiger Football Senior Considering His Options
Dallas, Tex.--The Cotton Bowl will be the end of the road for Karibi Dede's college football career, but he'll have plenty of options to choose from as he decides what he wants to do with his life. Already holding a degree in Rehab Special Education, his professors note he has a bright future in that field. Dede says his first choice would be playing in the NFL and he will starting working out to reach that goal after the Tigers get back from Dallas. "I'm going to training up in Atlanta with Chip Smith at Competitive Edge Sports and just getting ready for the NFL combines," Dede says. "Unless they tell you that you're (in the) top three rounds, then you're not even guaranteed to go. "I've heard late rounds, free agent signing and different stuff. You can't count on any of that. It's a toss-up and you still have the combines to go and a lot busy work goes on right now and agent pushing, that kind of stuff. So we'll see how it shakes out." If playing in the NFL doesn't pan out for the linebacker, a career in the CFL or Arena League would be a possibility. "The main thing for me with whatever I do is make sure the pay is comparable to the work," Dede explains. "I'm not going to lay my body on the line if I'm not making the right amount of money. I do love the game, but at the same time I have to take care of myself and look to make a living for a family. It just depends. I'm not narrow minded about it. I'm real open minded about it." Dede is a four-year contributor at safety and all three linebacker positions for the Tigers. Once football is over with collegiately and professionally, Dede says he plans on returning to school to finish his masters. Dede, who flew to Dallas on Tuesday from Atlanta, started practice on Wednesday at SMU as he begins his final week as an Auburn player. The senior and his teammates will be looking to improve their record to 11-2 as they take on Nebraska on New Year's Day in the Cotton Bowl.
