Rasheem Barrett, a guard who will be a junior this coming season, will join rising senior forward Quan Prowell on the trip that will run May 14-28th.
“This will be a wonderful experience for Quan and Rasheem,” Auburn coach Jeff Lebo said. “They get to play competitive basketball and experience a different culture. Not many people get a chance to do this. It is a great learning experience for them.”
Quan Prowell was a key player last season for the Tigers.
Prowell and Barrett will also play international basketball in August as they join their Auburn teammates for an exhibition tour on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
The Reach USA team will fly into Beijing on Wednesday and will then play eight games in 10 days throughout China. Other members of the Reach USA team are Mikhail Torrence and Demetrius Jemison of Alabama, LSU’s Garrett Temple, Mississippi State’s Brian Johnson, David Lipscomb’s Eddie Ard and Texas-Pan American’s Paul Stoll. Tom Schuberth of Texas-Pan American will coach the squad.
“I have never been overseas and to play in China will be a good experience,” Barrett said. “The only thing I am afraid of is the food. I hope I don’t lose too much weight. We hope to represent Auburn well, and I am just trying to go there with an open mind and have fun.”
Barrett averaged 11 points and 3.9 rebounds as a sophomore while Prowell averaged 12 points and 5.3 rebounds in his first season to play for the Tigers.
