Auburn, Ala.--Auburn senior defensive end Quentin Groves, who was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list last week, has been named to the preseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year announced Tuesday. He was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list on June 12.
Groves is one of four SEC players and 27 total on the list for the Hendricks Award, joining Wallace Gilberry of Alabama, Derrick Harvey of Florida and Tyson Jackson of LSU.
Groves has muscles on top of muscles and is in incredible shape for his senior season.
Past winners include Terrell Suggs of Arizona State (2003), David Pollack of Georgia (2004), Elvis Dumervil of Louisville (2005) and Michigan’s LaMarr Woodley last season.
Semifinalists will be announced in early November and the announcement of the winner will come on Dec. 6.
Groves, a Greenville, Miss., native, posted a team-leading 9.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in 2006. He finished with 37 tackles and earned Coaches and Associated Press All-SEC First Team honors.
