Caudle Gives Injury Update

Redshirt freshman quarterback Neil Caudle talks about rehabbing from another injury.

Auburn, Ala.--The ACL tears on both knees at Spain Park High School, the thumb injury that required surgery suffered while playing baseball, the list goes on for Neil Caudle.

This time around it's a shoulder sprain suffered in Auburn's first scrimmage of the preseason where the quarterbacks were live for contact. Caudle was fighting for the backup spot at the time, but isn't expected back until mid-September.

"I was actually really excited that we were doing it," Caudle says of the live contact. "I think all of the rest of the quarterbacks were, too, because it really showed what we could do out there. I wasn't too surprised. I know it's a rare thing, but I was excited to be doing it.

"It was very frustrating," he adds of the set back. "It was a real blow. It's just a small bump in the road and it's nothing too serious like I've had before. I know I can come back from it. Four weeks sounds about right and that's what they told me. Personally, I'm thinking two from now but that's wishful thinking. I know they won't let me come back by then. Definitely three from now would be great."


Caudle was in position to make a run for the back-up job before landing on his right shoulder in the scrimmage.

Caudle talked to the media on Sunday wearing an ice bag on his throwing shoulder after another session with team trainers. He says the rehab is coming along.

"It's getting a lot better and it's healed a lot in the past week," Caudle explains. "I've got a lot more range of motion and rehab is going really well. I sprained it pretty good, but it wasn't anything bad enough for surgery or anything. It could always be worse, but yeah, it's sprained pretty bad.

"I got out of the sling today," he continues. "I've been doing a lot of exercises in the training room and I've got a lot of strength back in it. I'm doing a good bit with it and I should be able to start throwing some next week. I'm doing a lot of band work and manual stuff with the trainers with them giving the resistance--basically trying to strengthen the ligaments back up."

With Caudle out and Steven Ensminger also dinged up with a shoulder injury, Blake Field and Kodi Burns have been splitting reps with the second-string offense.
