Auburn, Ala.--Freshman center Boubacar Sylla, who has been trying to make a comeback from a foot injury, will not play the rest of the season for the Auburn basketball team.
“We are going to apply for Boubacar for a medical redshirt,” Coach Jeff Lebo says. “I don’t think he is going to be healthy enough to get back this year...He will definitely be out for the rest of the year.”
The seven-foot-one center was able to play just 13 minutes this season with brief appearances in three games. He last saw action against Alabama State on Nov. 16th and was quickly substituted out of the game once he entered as a reserve because he was struggling to move.
“It is a stress reaction (fracture) in his foot in a place where you have to be very, very careful according to the doctors,” Lebo says. “If it does come with a full break, it could hinder him ever playing again. That is how they put it to me so it is a spot where it is very vulnerable.
“We have tried to rest it, he has tried to come back, but he is still limping on it in practice,” Lebo adds. “He is not 100 percent so we will try to get him healthy, apply for the medical redshirt and try to get him ready for next year.”
