Originally game number two on the 2008 Auburn football schedule, AU moved its October 18th game vs. Southern Miss to the Sept. 6th West Virginia slot.
Coach Tommy Tuberville’s Tigers finished the 2007 season with a 23-20 Chick-fil-A Bowl victory over Clemson on New Year’s Eve.
"This move will give us a great opportunity to receive the national spotlight on ESPN on a Thursday night,” Tuberville said. “We want to make our schedule as competitive as anybody, and playing an outstanding non-conference opponent like West Virginia will do just that."
Tuberville's team is scheduled to begin spring practice on Feb. 29th and the A-Day Game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29th at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Tigers have played seven Thursday night games and won six, including the last one, a 24-17 victory at South Carolina in 2006.
