Montgomery, Ala.--Megan Perkins of Robert E. Lee High School, already heavily recruited as a junior, has committed to play for Coach Nell Fortner’s Auburn women’s basketball team.
“She is an awesome player and she is an awesome person off the court, too,” Lee head coach Kelvin Stokes tells Inside the Auburn Tigers.. "She told Coach Nell Fortner that she wants to ben an Auburn Tiger."
A six-foot guard who averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game, Perkins decided to commit early to the Tigers after visiting the AU campus on Sunday to watch the Tigers defeat South Carolina.
Stokes says that the junior chose Auburn over Miami, Arkansas, Ole Miss, UAB, Alabama, Cincinnati, South Florida and other colleges. “She is excited about being an Auburn Tiger,” Stokes says. “She wanted to get the recruiting behind her and concentrate on trying to win a state championship for the Lee Generals as a senior.”
Lee wrapped up the 2007-2008 season with a 19-9 record.
“Auburn is getting a terrific player,” Stokes says. “She does so many things well. She can take opponents off the dribble with her one-on-one moves and she is an awesome passer and defender. She has a very high basketball IQ. She played every position for us, but in college she will be a two-three (shooting guard, small forward).”
