Auburn, Ala.--After losing their final three regular season games, Coach Jeff Lebo’s Auburn Tigers head into the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament as the sixth seed in the SEC West, which means they will open tournament play with a Thursday game vs. Vanderbilt.
Tipoff time for the contest, which will be televised regionally by Raycom Sports, is set for 2:15 p.m. CDT from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The Tigers, who finished the regular season 14-15 overall and 4-12 in SEC games, will face a Vandy team that is 25-6 overall and 10-6 in the conference after losing on Saturday in overtime at Alabama.
“They are very, very well coached and a Top 20 team,” Lebo says of Auburn’s opponent. “This is the third out of four years that we have played Vanderbilt (in the SEC Tournament). It is a tough task for us.
“They are awfully, awfully good at home,” Lebo adds. “At least we are not playing them in Nashville so maybe we can go up there and make some shots and keep it close early in the game. Maybe they will get tight and we will come out of our shooting slump a little bit.”
