| Two More World Records for AU Swimmers | ||||

Manchester, England--A trio of Auburn swimmers won gold medals and set world records on Friday night at the FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships. | |||

Current Auburn women’s swimming team member Kara Denby joined former Tiger Margaret Hoelzer on the winning U.S. 400-meter medley relay team that broke the old record by a fraction of a second. Another former Tiger, Kirsty Coventry, won her third gold medal at the competition and second a second world record. The three-time Olympic medalist posted a time of 2:00.91 in the 200-meter backstroke to smash the old record of 2:03.24 held by Japan’s Reiko Nakamura. Denby and Hoelzer joined Jessica Hardy and Rachel Komisarz to swim 3:51.84, breaking the record set by the Australian national team by of 3:51.84. Hoelzer swam the leadoff backstroke leg in 58.79 for the U.S. team while Denby swam the anchor freestyle leg in a 52.66. The competition continues through Sunday. |
