St. Simons Island, Ga.--Par proved to be elusive for the Tigers as Auburn heads into the second day of the SEC Men’s Golf Tournament a disappointing 11th.

The Tigers, who are ranked 16th nationally, shot a 13-over-par 301 on Friday, the first of three days of competition at the par-72, 7,217-yard Frederica Golf Club.

Senior Gordon Strother, who is tied for 17th individually, had the low round of the day for the Tigers with a 73. Senior Jay Moseley, AU’s number one player, is next at 75 followed by sophomore Glenn Northcutt at 76 and senior Patton Kizzire at 77.

The Tigers did not have to count a 78 from senior Jamie Bowen.

Alabama leads after one round with a 285 total. The No. 2 ranked Tide is five strokes ahead of Georgia, which is ranked No. 1 nationally, and No. 7 Florida. LSU is next at 292.

“You want to get off to a good start in the conference tournament,” Auburn coach Mike Griffin said. ”We didn't do that. We did not play well on the front nine and that set us back. The good thing about an extended tournament is that we have two more rounds to go where we can make up ground.”

The low round of day one was a 68 by Joseph Sykora of Alabama.
