Auburn, Ala.--Freshman starting pitcher Cory Luckie received good news from an MRI after injuring his throwing arm that caused him to make an early exit from his last outing on Saturday at Alabama.
The lefty for the Auburn baseball team did not suffer any serious damage and should be back in the pitching rotation when Auburn travels to LSU a week from Friday. However, he will not be available to pitch this weekend as the Tigers play a three-game series vs. Mississippi State that starts at 6 p.m. on Friday at Plainsman Park.
Taylor Thompson, a sophomore right-hander, is scheduled to start on Saturday for the Tigers in Luckie’s spot in the pitching rotation. Thompson is 2-4 overall with a 6.65 earned run average.
Luckie is 4-4 with a 4.38 earned run average.
Freshman Grant Dayton, who is 6-1 with a 3.94 ERA, will pitch for Auburn on Friday while the Sunday starter is still to be determined for the Tigers. Slater says it will depend on who is available following the first two games of the series.
Saturday’s game will start at 6 p.m. and the Sunday finale is set for 2 p.m. The slumping Tigers are 24-22 overall and 8-13 in the SEC. Mississippi State is 18-26 overall and 6-15 in conference play.
Hunter Morris has been a standout freshman performer this season.
Another injured Tiger, first baseman Hunter Morris, will likely be available for designated hitter duty this weekend, Slater says. Morris leads the Tigers in hitting with a .360 batting average.
