Norman, Okla.--Auburn freshman Cydney Clanton has been chosen to play in the 2008 Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship that will be played in Tokyo.

The announcement, which was made on Monday, is for a competition that will take place July 16-18 at the Tokyo Golf Club.

This is the 33rd year the competition has been held and Clanton is the fourth Auburn player selected to the team joining Missy Tuck in 1990, Robin Cook in 1998 and Danielle Downey in 2000 and 2002.

“It is an honor for Cydney to represent the United States in this match,” Auburn coach Kim Evans said. “We are proud that she will be on the team and feel she earned this honor.”

The United States leads the competition 24-8. The teams include eight men and four women, including Clanton, the SEC Freshman of the Year.

Clanton and her Auburn teammates qualified for the NCAA Championship last weekend in Athens, Ga., and will compete for the national title May 20-23 in Albuquerque, N.M.
