Track Tigers Come Up Short at Olympic Trials

Eugene, Oregon--A quartet of Auburn Tigers came up short in their quests to make the United States Olympic Track and Field team.

NCAA hammer champion Cory Martin finished sixth in the hammer throw and teammate Jake Dunkleberger, the 2007 NCAA champ in the hammer, took eighth place. Martin’s best throw was 235 feet. Dunkleberger’s top throw was 226 feet.

The event was won by A.G. Kruger with a throw of 248 feet, nine inches.

Ty Akins the 2007 NCAA men’s hurdles champ, finished seventh in the finals with a time of 13.82 after stumbling on the final two hurdles. He had run a 13.26 in the semi-finals. David Oliver ran a wind-aided 12.95 to win the race.

In the women’s competition, Raevan Harris finished 10th with a height of 6-0 1/2 in the high jump. Chaunte Howard won the event with a leap of 6-5 1/2.

Martin, Dunkleberger and Akins just wrapped up their senior seasons at Auburn. Harris just completed her junior year.
