A recruiting update is featured on Brantley High star Anthony Gulley…
Gulley Makes Decision To Be A Tiger
Brantley, Ala.--Following an official visit to Auburn earlier in January, Brantley's Anthony Gulley said that he was close to choosing Auburn at that time. After receiving a firm offer from coach Gene Chizik and visiting Troy last weekend, Gulley made the decision to be a Tiger. He says that Chizik and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn visiting him and showing him that he was wanted was huge for him. "It went pretty good," Gulley says. "I was very surprised and excited. I'm just ready to get up there. War Eagle!" A solid Auburn lean since he first began receiving interest from the Tigers, Gulley says that on his official visit he saw exactly what was in store for him if he chose the Tigers and he liked it. "Auburn has been my team for I don't know how long," Gulley says. "Just meeting the coaches, Christian coaches, and meeting the players, it just felt like home. They have nice facilities and all that. "When I first got there the people were so nice," he adds. "They introduced me and I talked to everyone. I made friends pretty quick." A very humble person and player, Gulley was a dominant figure on both offense and defense for the Bulldogs as a senior. Despite his huge numbers, he didn't want his coaches publicizing him or his play. Still he managed to draw the attention of several schools and in the end wound up choosing the school of his dreams. "I never thought I would be able to have the chance to play on Auburn's team," Gulley says. "I'm just glad I am." Also a talented baseball player, Gulley says right now he hopes to have a shot to play baseball while at Auburn, but football will be his first priority. "I'm going to try and see if there is any chance I can try out," Gulley says. "As for just playing I don't think I can just walk out there and play." As a senior Gulley had 58 carries for 1,162 yards and 18 touchdowns, caught 17 passes for 543 yards and had nine touchdowns, returned six kickoffs for 244 yards and two touchdowns, and returned five punts for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, the senior had 48 solo tackles, nine sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
