Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn baseball Tigers got some bad news on Monday as senior catcher Ryan Jenkins will undergo surgery on
his right hand on Tuesday, Auburn head coach John Pawlowski said.
One of Auburn's three team captains, Jenkins fractured his hand near the end of Saturday's preseason scrimmage and will have a pin placed in his hand during the surgery.
“Losing Ryan for the first month of the season is tough, but we have
capable players behind him in Tony Caldwell and Caleb Bowen,”
Pawlowski said. “Ryan had a great fall and had carried that over into
the preseason. We will miss his leadership on the field but that gives
others the opportunity to step up.”
Auburn is in its first season under the direction of Pawlowski. Auburn opens up the season at 3 p.m. CST on Friday at home against Elon.
