Auburn improved to 26-2 with an SEC womens' basketball victory over Georgia…
Report on AU Hoops Freshman's Injury
Auburn, Ala.--Auburn women's basketball freshman forward Chantel Hilliard may be able to play in Auburn's final regular season game this Sunday. Inside the Auburn Tigers was told on Monday that medical tests on her knee showed no tear and there is hope the injury won't keep her out of action for an extended period. She is listed as questionable for AU's game on Sunday vs. Arkansas. Hilliard was hurt in the closing minutes of Auburn's 65-59 victory over Georgia on Sunday that clinched a share of the regular season Southeastern Conference title for Coach Nell Fortner's Tigers. She was carried off the floor in obvious pain after being crashed into during a scramble for a loose ball. The victory moved the Tigers to 11-2 in the SEC, one game ahead of Vanderbilt with one game to play. The Tigers are off until Sunday when they have a 2 p.m. home contest vs. Arkansas to close the regular season. Arkansas is on a five-game winning streak and is 17-11 overall and 6-7 in the SEC. Auburn won a previous matchup 70-61 at Arkansas earlier this year. Vanderbilt's final regular season game is at Tennessee. The Commodores dropped a game behind Auburn on Sunday with a loss at Ole Miss. Vandy can share the regular season championship and earn the No. 1 seed for the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament if the Tigers lose and Vandy wins this week. Hilliard has played in 23 of Auburn's 27 games and has averaged 12.2 minutes of playing time per outing. She averages 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds. Her playing time has increased in recent games. Hilliard scored eight points and pulled in four rebounds vs. Georgia. She hit 4-6 field goals and played 21 minutes. Earlier this year the Tigers lost their starter at the same power forward position that Hilliard plays. Jordan Greenleaf, a junior, is out until next season recovering from an ACL injury. Hilliard came to Auburn from St. Martin High in Biloxi, Miss., where she was an All-State performer who averaged 25 points and 13 rebounds as a senior.
