Cobb Talks Spring, Favorites
Auburn, Ala.--Auburn High School has put out multiple college prospects in the last few years including recent signee John Sullen to Auburn and Dee Finley to Florida. The next in line to go to an SEC team could be defensive back Pee Wee Cobb. A speedy 6-0, 180 cornerback who has the explosion teams are looking for in man coverage, Cobb has around a dozen offers at the moment, but says he's looking mostly at two schools from the Southeastern Conference. "Recruiting is going pretty good," Cobb says. "I kind of like Florida a lot. I just like the environment. I think I could fit in immediately. "I also like Georgia," he adds. "They've been talking to me a lot lately." It's not a surprise that Florida is one of the schools that Cobb is very interested in. Related to Finley, he says he's heard a lot of good things about the Gators. The connection is also likely one of the reasons coach Urban Meyer has shown so much interest in Cobb. "That's good," Cobb says of having Finley at Florida. "He's my cousin so that could work out good. He could teach me some of the drills they do." Part of a large group of returning players for the Auburn High Tigers in 2009, Cobb is one of the key pieces on defense along with lineman Rodney Thomas. Last year the Tigers went 12-1 before losing to powerhouse Prattville in the quarter-finals of the 6A playoffs. This time around things are different for Cobb though as he's become one of the leaders on the team. Working with younger players during the spring helped him to see how important his new job has become and he believes it's helped his game and the entire team in spring practice. "I think I improved a lot in the spring," Cobb says. "I've got to work on the little things. I think I did pretty good. It was an alright spring for the defense." As a junior Cobb finished with 29 tackles, 21 solo, two interceptions and 12 pass breakups. He also added three kickoff returns for 76 yards and six punt returns for 37 yards.
