Wednesday Auburn Football Practice Notes

Tyrik Rollison passes on Wednesday evening.

It was a busy news day for the Tigers as Auburn opened preseason practice.

Auburn, Ala.--News and notes from the opening day of Auburn's preseason football practice are featured.

*True freshmen wide receivers DeAngelo Benton and Emory Blake worked with the first offense on Wednesday. Coach Trooper Taylor says the older guys had their chances to get extensive work in spring training and he wanted to see how the young guys would do.

*Wide receiver Darvin Adams won praise for his play from Taylor.

*Redshirt freshman wide receiver Phillip Pierre-Louis did not practice and won't join the team until classes start, head coach Gene Chizik said. Chizik did not provide any details, but said it was not injury-related. Pierre-Louis is recovering from knee surgery.

*Walk-on redshirt freshman running back Justin Albert isn't with the team anymore and Chizik did not say why.

*Signee Josh Jackson is going to junior college (Coffeyville in Kansas) and another defensive line signee, Terrance Coleman, is going to Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Mississippi.

*The Tigers are still waiting to find out the status on two other signees--safety Daren Bates and cornerback Taikwon Paige.

Robert Cooper from Daphne, who played quarterback and safety in high school, worked with tight ends coach Jay Boulware on Wednesday.

*Wide receiver Tim Hawthorne is still wearing a protective boot for a foot injury suffered this summer. It is not known yet when he will be cleared for action.

*QB Chris Todd, who did very little in spring practice while recovering from shoulder surgery, was throwing the ball with good velocity in practice.

*Prep All-American quarterback Tyrik Rollison threw the ball well, too, as he participated in his first official college practice.

*Aubrey Phillips worked at left tackle in his first Auburn practice and was moving well. He originally signed with Florida State, but left that program after a conflict with the FSU coaching staff over the summer prior to the start of practice. It still hasn't been determined if he will be able to play this season for the Tigers or have to redshirt. AU is hoping to get a waiver from the NCAA to clear him to play.
